Mississippi children are the most likely to be obese, one of the most likely to experience teen pregnancy, and dropout of high school. One of the reasons behind all of these negative statistics is that children living in a rural area are often have a lot of free time which can get them into trouble. We at the Arts Council wants to reverse these statistics. We know that Mississippi has produced some of the greatest artists of all time and we want to help nurture more talent out of Mississippi. We want to do that by getting the children of Lafayette County involved in our arts programs! Art programs have proven time and time again to make children much more likely to stay out of trouble and graduate high school. Children involved in arts programs are much better at team work, have better social skills, cognitive skills, and are much more likely to be accepting of other cultures.
